The Modern Day Shakespeare

This is the first Action Project for the Drama course. In the first unit, we read "The Taming of the Shrew" by Shakespeare and we paid special attention to Kate, one of the main characters' monologue. For this Action Project, we were asked to write a sonnet addressing one of the characters from "The Taming of the Shrew". This was our chance to give them a piece of our mind after reading the play. I learned a lot about Shakespearean language and the problems going on during that time through a poet and playwright's eyes. One problem they saw was the equality and gender issues. An example of the problem was that women could not act in the plays. Shakespeare also wrote about socio-economic inequalities. I am very proud of the sonnet I wrote because I took the form of a traditional sonnet and modernized it by turning it into a rap. Please enjoy the video of my sonnet below, and if you would like please write one of your own and leave it as a comment in the comment box.

Thank you, BKJ

Kate you say you should "OBEY"
Like Andre the Giant
But little do you know
Petruchio has been lying

Petruchio talked bad about you
Put your emotions in a ditch
Because you had the whole town saying
"Kate is such a witch"

Kate you need to wake up and open your eyes
and stop believing this incompetent fools lies.
please do not marry him, he is not the one
the first thing he'll do is take your cash and run

so take my advice, I hope you heard
get up and go, don't say a word
